Faraday Cage / Box

Welcome to my page about the Faraday Cage / Box.  The design of the Faraday cage / box has been around since 1836, first built by Michael Faraday…

The basic concept of the Faraday cage / box is to protect anything inside from an electrical discharge, electromagnetic fields, electromagnetic radiation, and electromagnetic pulses…  The mesh on the outside of the box will absorb these types of disturbances and send them away from the device inside via a grounding source (usually a wire attached to the box and connected to a grounding source)…

These types of disturbances can affect electrical equipment, especially audio recorders, causing anything from static interference to even whispers…  Not good when listening for EVP’s…  If the disturbance is strong enough, it can render the device useless and unrepairable…  But if we pick up an EMF or electromagnetic radiation that strong, there’s a bigger problem going on…  However, by placing an audio recorder inside a Faraday cage / box, you’ll keep it protected from these types of disturbances…

The box will also block RF signals (such as cell phone) and radio waves…  Now, why is this important???  In my research I have found that there is a slight possibility that the wires connecting the microphone to the diode inside the recorder, or even an external microphone connected to the recorder, can actually act as an antenna…  If the modulation of the RF frequency is the same as the RF modulation that the microphone produces when it picks up audio, the recorder will translate that signal into a binary code that when played back, will translate into audio we can hear…  However, the likelihood of this actually happening is rather slim…  But it is for this reason that the recorder can be affected this way that the Faraday cage / box comes in handy…

Because the Faraday cage / box blocks EMF, the RF frequencies used in wireless communications (like cell phones and WiFi), and the waves used in radio transmissions you have a better chance to have an anomalous free recording in which to capture EVP’s during paranormal research…  It is because of this reason I don’t go on any investigation with out my Faraday cages…  I have had a few other paranormal groups request me to build them a Faraday cage / box, so I decided to create this page for anyone else who may be interested in having one built for them…

My standard box size is 6" x 5" x 4" which is big enough to house a standard audio recorder and microphone inside…  If you buy one from me, I also include a ground fault tester (used to test outlets for proper grounding) and if you like, an grounding pole with grounding attachment so you can use it during outside investigations.

I charge $50 for the box without the outdoor grounding option, $60 with the outside grounding option…

Please note that it can take between 2 to 3 weeks to complete your box… So, if you would like one built for you, let me know which one you want.  I will create an eBay auction and email you the link…  If you have any other questions, please don’t hesitate to email me.
