History:

Oakwood Cemetery is the final resting place for Moses Mordecai and his family, including his son Henry, who in 1867 donated a wooded parcel east of the city of Raleigh to establish a Confederate cemetery.  Over 1500 Confederate soldiers, and newly discovered one Union soldier are buried.  People from the Triangle may recognize the name Mordecai from the Mordecai House in Raleigh .  It’s the same family.

Another plot became the county's first Hebrew Cemetery .  The adjacent Oakwood Cemetery , chartered in 1869, eventually lent its name to the large suburb that developed in the adjoining wooded land, earlier known as Mordecai Grove.  In 1974, Oakwood became the first neighborhood in Raleigh to be listed in the National Register

Investigation:

PB & J Paranormal Investigations went to historic Oakwood Cemetery for their Annual Lantern Walk.  But because of the events going on in the Confederate Cemetery , they could not investigate in that part of the cemetery.  After the tour, they got permission from the cemetery representative to go deeper into Oakwood, away from the noise, to conduct our investigation.

In a deeper section of the cemetery, Anne and Christopher began their EVP session while Christopher filmed with the Mini DV Camcorder.  EMF readings at the time were 0.00 (0 Activity).  During the EVP session, Anne took pictures with the digital camera.  After 45 minutes, they moved to a deeper part of the cemetery and started over.  After repeating this process 3 more times, they decided to end the investigation.

Evidence:

Neither Anne nor Christopher had any personal experiences to make note about.  Most of the experiences they had were easily debunked.  They also did not get any credible evidence after analyzing the audio, video, and photographs.  The evening was uneventful.

Christopher’s Notes:

It’s very difficult to get any credible evidence during an outdoor investigation. That’s why we try to avoid them if possible. There are just too many things that can give you anomalous readings, odd sounds, and even odd pictures.  I learned if you shake the EMF meter too much while taking readings, it can cause it to jump to a 3.0, so you have to be careful.

However this investigation was more for us to put what we’ve learned to use and get accustomed to using our equipment for investigations.

During the analysis, we did not get anything we couldn’t explain on audio.  We saw lots of insects and dust in our pictures.  I even joke in one video clip that, "Ooh, I caught something... A moth..."  We did however find an odd picture that caused us to analyze it further. Keep in mind we won’t submit pictures of orbs as evidence very often, and we're not submitting this as such... It's just interesting and is somewhat different to other pictures of “orbs” out there.  It's not a perfect circle like many pictures of orbs we have captured and seen... Look between the second small and larger headstone for a small blue "orb"... It seems to emit its own energy, but after further analysis, we both agree that this is a bug of some type.  Because of the location of the insect with the level of the flash on the camera, we believe this is a reflection off of its wings… We have had some other people give their opinions who also feel it's a bug or some type of reflection... Take a look see what you think...
